the questions...
We spend most of our lives searching and striving for purpose in life. We ask ourselves these familiar questions:
- Why am I here?
- What am I to do with my life?
the answers...
When I look at this world, I see the evidence of an intelligent Creator. In life, nothing is made without a maker. A TV for example was designed, engineered, and manufactured by someone. A TV does not just magically appear. The purpose of the TV is to entertain and fatten Americans up. Also, take for example, the complexity of the tree. It appears a simple thing, but a tree is a very complex organism. Its leaves produce energy and oxygen through photosynthesis. Then vessels in the trunk and branches spread that energy throughout the tree for storage and growth. The purpose of the tree in the world is to provide fruit, oxygen, and fuel to name a few. Just as a TV has a maker, this world has a Maker who has created everything and given purpose to everything.
Like the tree, you have a Creator and a purpose.
Why are you here?
God created you to know Him and to fellowship with Him.
Read Genesis 1:27 from the Bible:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
Read Titus 2:13-14 from the Bible:
"...our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good."
God created you, yet sin (evil moral decisions) has separated you from God. However, God's Son, Jesus Christ, gave Himself up for you to restore your relationship with God and to make you His very own.Your purpose in life is to know God. You are here to know God.
What are you to do with your life?
God created you to fulfill a task.
Read Ephesians 2:10 from the Bible:
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Read Jeremiah 29:11 from the Bible:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
God created you to trust and obey Him. The greatest joy in life is found in this. God has a good plan for your life, and your purpose in life is to fulfill God's task for your life.
the problem...
Sin has separated you from God. It has broken your relationship with God.
The Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
How then can a sinful person know God when sin separates us from God and prevents us from entering Heaven?
the solution...
That can be answered in one word: F.A.I.T.H.
F...Forgiveness
We cannot know God and have eternal life without God's forgiveness. "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sin." (Ephesians 1:7)
A...Available
Forgiveness is available for all. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
I...Impossible
It is impossible for God to allow sin into His presence. Sin separates us from God. God is:
- Love "God is love." (1 John 4:16)
- Just "For Judgment is without mercy." (James 2:13)
How then can a sinful person restore their relationship with God and go to heaven?
T...Turn
If you were driving down the road and someone asked you to turn, what would he or she be asking you to do? Of course, change direction. Turn means to repent, repent from something - sin and self, and to someone; trust Christ only. "But unless you repent you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3) The Bible tells us, "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
H...Heaven
Heaven is Eternal Life. It has two aspects:
- Here - Our relationship to God can be restored now. While here on the earth, we can know God and fellowship with Him.
"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)
- Hereafter - When we die we can know that we will go to a perfect place that has no sin, struggles, pain, or tears.
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:3)
your decision...
To restore your relationship with God and find true purpose in life, you need to have the forgiveness of God and to trust Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord. We do this by crying out to God:
- You must admit you are a sinner that you have sinned against God.
- Then, you just simply have to ask Him for forgiveness. He promises to forgive you. (1 John 1:9)
- Also, you must believe that Jesus is who He says He is. He is the Son of God. He died on the cross for your sins and came back to life the third day.
Pray sincerely the following prayer as you repent of your sins and trust Jesus and Him only to save you.
Dear Jesus, I believe that you are the Son of God. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and that you arose from the grave. I now ask you to forgive me of my sins and to save me. I surrender my life to trust and obey you. Amen.
